A Christmas Miracle
This program was started to help refugees have the chance to experience a Christmas. An experience with one of our workers with a 9-year-old client inspired us to start a donation drive to provide a little holiday cheer. The girl, along with her three siblings, had heard last year from their friends about the tradition of leaving stockings out for Santa Claus. The kids got the idea and each took one of their socks from off their foot on Christmas Eve and put it out on the table, as they did not have a fireplace. They woke up the next morning and found that their stockings were empty. When they explained their sadness and disappointment to the worker, she had to hastily try to explain that Santa Claus just probably hadn't realized that those were Christmas stockings he was supposed to fill. This last year we were able to fill those stockings and provide a Christmas to many other refugees in the Treasure Valley.
2014 Added Seniors and Veterans
After coming in contact with Phil at the Veterans center we learned of the plight of several homeless Veterans in the area that would not have a Christmas. We decided to expand the program and the donations to include homelessVeterans and seniors and were able to provide Christmas presents for several Veterans and seniors.
This Year's Program-The Details Christmas 2019
We will be having an open drive where there will be folks specifically to collect the wrapped gifts on Saturday November 23th from 10 am- 5 pm a the Real Solutions Counseling office at 1011 W. Williams St Ste.G Boise, ID 83706 . If this time does not work for folks or if they have any questions they can call 208-713-9033 to make other arrangements or have their questions answered.
What we are looking for is stocking type stuffer items for children ages 0-17 and for homeless Veterans and elderly. Warm clothing is especially needed. Last year we asked for possible financial donations to purchase underwear and socks and theses proved to be very helpful. Please mark all wrapped packages with (Adult Male, Adult Female, Child Male or Child Female) so that we can make sure the right gift goes to the right persons.
Many of the clothing vouchers folks can get through local charities include all other items but rarely bras, underwear and socks.
We were thrilled with all of the great toys and goodies that came in for all of the kids. The kindness of our community truly shone bright with all of the incredible donations. My favorite parts were the folks who brought in hand made toys and those who included the children in their lives to make this an incredible life lesson in giving. Everyone did such an amazing job. Last year was a wonderful success with more than 60 refugee children being provided with their very first Christmas experience. This year we felt the need is so great we would expand our request and graciously hope for a response.
"A Christmas Miracle" is a part of Human Empowerment Services which is a Non-Profit Organization created to help Seniors, Disabled and Disadvantaged Persons. Your donation will be used to help purchase Christmas items that can be distributed to refugees, older seniors, and veterans in the Treasure Valley of Idaho.
